The Guyana Customhouse Brokers Association (GCBA) recently participated in a Refresher Training Session on the LPCO (License, Permit, Certificate, and Other) Module, conducted virtually by CrimsonLogic.
The training provided a detailed walkthrough of the functionalities available when applying for licenses, permits, and certificates issued by agencies connected to the Guyana Electronic Single Window (ESW) system.
The Government of Guyana has introduced the ESW through the Guyana Trade Network (GTN)—a secure digital platform that simplifies international trade processes by offering real-time access to government services. Exporters, importers, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders can now submit and track applications for trade-related approvals from fifteen (15) government agencies in one centralized portal.
The Guyana Customhouse Brokers Association (GCBA) participated in a pivotal round table discussion focused on local content and strengthening collaboration among Guyana's business support organizations (BSOs). The event, hosted by ACE Consulting Group in partnership with the Centre for Local Business Development and ExxonMobil Guyana, brought together leaders to discuss how local content can pave the way for national resilience and prosperity.
Mr. Colin Moore represented the GCBA at this timely and forward-looking engagement. The discussion highlighted the importance of a collaborative approach to local content development, emphasizing its role in fostering a resilient Guyanese economy. President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali has announced plans to introduce a modern Port Act and establish an Independent Port Authority, measures aimed at reshaping Guyana’s maritime sector in line with international best practices.
Speaking at the Shipping Association of Guyana’s Networking and Business Mixer, the President highlighted that with marine traffic quadrupling since 2020, the country’s port infrastructure must be strengthened to remain competitive, reliable, and future-ready.
The new legislation will govern the development, regulation, and oversight of port operations, ensuring greater efficiency, safety, and transparency. The Independent Port Authority will provide professional, impartial oversight, supporting the growth of a globally connected economy.
President Ali also underscored the importance of modernising port systems, including dredging, digitalisation, and improved customs processing, while noting the development of a deep-water port in Berbice as a critical gateway for regional and international trade.
The initiative reflects government’s commitment to positioning Guyana as a maritime hub for trade and investment in the Caribbean and South America.

Sébastien Sigouin, and Senior Trade Commissioner & Counsellor (Commercial), Ms. Yvana Nganou.
The discussions brought together PSC Council members and key stakeholders to explore areas of mutual interest between Canada and Guyana, with a strong focus on:
Trade and investment opportunities
Tourism, oil and gas, manufacturing, and mining
Support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in accessing the Canadian market
Facilitation of business delegations between both countries
Expansion of local content and joint ventures to promote sustainable growth
The dialogue also addressed Guyana’s upcoming national elections, where the PSC reaffirmed its role as an accredited observer. The Canadian High Commission expressed its commitment to supporting free, fair, and transparent elections, and welcomed opportunities for collaboration with the PSC observer mission.
The GCHBA recognizes the importance of such engagements in fostering stronger bilateral relations, enhancing business exchanges, and creating new opportunities for customs brokerage and trade facilitation. The Association looks forward to continued collaboration with the PSC and the Canadian High Commission to support economic growth and sustainable development in Guyana.

The Guyana Customs House Brokers and Clerks Association held its AGM on May 4th, re-electing Colin Moore as President for a second term. Moore urged members to focus on unity, improve standards, and remain competitive amidst the country’s rapid economic growth, particularly due to opportunities in the Oil and Gas sector. The new executive team aims to build partnerships with the Guyana Revenue Authority, regulators, policymakers, and international organizations to enhance trade facilitation. The elected executives include Vice President Christopher Matthias, Secretary Donna Chung, and several committee members.
On January 7, 2023, the Guyana Customs House Brokers and Clerks Association held its inaugural dinner and awards ceremony, recognizing 22 retired and long-serving brokers and clerks for their dedication. Notable awardees included Ronald Ramcharran, the first Licensed Broker, and Past Presidents Andrew Thorne and Morris Bart. Female pioneers, Ingrid Bristol and Loretta Desir-John, were also honored for their contributions to the industry.
President Colin Moore emphasized the importance of professionalism and integrity, highlighting the Association's growth through partnerships with key stakeholders like the Shipping Association of Guyana and the Private Sector Commission. Comptroller of Customs, Rohan Beekhoo, underscored the crucial role customs brokers play in handling increased imports and exports due to Guyana's oil discovery and other growing sectors like agriculture and manufacturing.
